Becoming a Referee

Become a Youth Soccer Referee 2021-2022
This year is going to be the quickest, easiest, and cheapest for people to become a USSF
Certified Youth Soccer Referee.

STEP 1: US Soccer Learning Center (online- self paced) must complete the following requirements.
● Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments – 1 hr.
● SafeSport (if 18 years or older)- 1 hr.
● Online Grassroots Referee Course Module – 4.5 hr.
● First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz - 45 mins.
● U.S. Soccer Federation Gold Standard NCSI Background Check (if 18 years or older)
STEP 2: Attend ONE Virtual Training Session: (TFTS): 3 Hours
Jan 9: 8:30a-11:30a
Jan. 22: 8:30-11:30 am
Feb 3: 4:30-7:30 pm
Feb 22:6:30-9:30 pm
March 20: 9a-12

to let us know you have completed all requirements. We will help you:
-contact the correct assignor
-help you set up an Arbiter Account (used to schedule and accept games)
-choose and buy the correct uniform style and colors
-answer any further questions or concerns you may have

How much does it cost?
US Soccer Online Class: $50
NCSI Background Check: $30
Basic Uniform Referee Kit: $60
Referee will earn back the startup cost ($140) after working 4-5 games!

Referee numbers are down, number of games is up.
The average youth referee makes $20-$30 dollar an hour.
